The White Russian was once a not-so-well-known cocktail; that all changed when The Dude came along. The White Russian was first mixed up back in 1949 when Gustave Tops, a Belgian bartender, dreamt up two luxurious cocktails, the Black and the White Russian. The difference? Well, the Black Russian lacks the indulgent cream. The White Russian exploded in popularity due to the 1998 cult-classic movie The Big Lebowski. This incidentally is where we learned about this drink! After seeing the main character, “the Dude” down drink after drink…you’ve got to try it for yourself. And thanks to the film becoming a cult classic over time, millions of The Big Lebowski fans have come to appreciate the White Russian, which ultimately saved it from extinction.
