So it’s a little strange that most people think New Zealand’s winemaking history only started in the eighties, when Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs started taking over the shelves. New Zealand’s wine excellence is a product of centuries of refinement, but the reason the world woke up to it in the eighties was an export law change that allowed New Zealand Wines to conquer foreign markets.
Because there are so many different climates in New Zealand, a wide variety of grapes can grow here.
